About me

I’m glad you stopped by.

I’m a new dad in my 50s with a baby boy. My journey before marriage and parenthood included decades of pushing myself to extremes while exploring my mental and physical limits. A certain type of courage and resilience defined my life experience during that time. It was gritty and solitary, but that was my identity. I learned to live on that edge to cope with the trauma of my childhood.

I evolved personally and spiritually in my forties. Instead of continuing to risk my life to transcend depression and anger, I stepped back from that edge to work on healing, to make peace with myself and my past. That process opened me to love, fatherhood, to the creative work I now enjoy so much, as well as coaching and speaking.

The adventures and intense physical challenges I took on over the years provide me with an incredible knowledge base related to mindset, nutrition, training, and recovery. The numerous credentials I have gained help me apply exercise science and physiology to my experience as an extreme athlete.  l reach into that as well as spiritual wisdom when helping people make difficult changes, reach for their goals, and transform their health.

The DIvision i Journey

I feel fortunate to have played on three bowl championship teams for UC Berkeley in the 90s’. My favorite bowl experience was the Florida Citrus Bowl, where my Cal Bears crushed the Clemson Tigers to finish the season ranked 7th in the nation.

My collegiate student athlete journey remains integral to my work with youth. I was terrified when I arrived on campus prior to my freshman year. It was a big unknown if I would make it athletically or academically, and I was really short on people believing in me. That was such a difficult time in my life to navigate and it took the development of a very specific set of skills to succeed.

Although the game of college football has change a lot since then, the lessons I learned are timeless, the skillset is enduring, and it is a privilege for me to share this wisdom with young people I coach.
